Shami Chaikin, a 78 year old Manhattan NY resident, was riding her mobile scooter in the designated bike lane in Greenwich Village when a garbage truck. Chaikin was known to ride her mobility scooter around the city. Officials report that the truck was not in its designated place when it struck the elderly woman on Eighth Avenue between Bleeker Strett and West 12th Street. Chaikin suffered much injury and was rushed to St. Vincent’s Hospital; located at 170 West 12th Street New York, NY 10011. New York Police have not released the type of injury Chaikin suffered, but have said that she is in critical condition. DWI was not charged.
