A dwarf activist known for his vocal demonstrations on issues from gay rights to disabled rights to transportation was killed when struck by a taxi as he left a meeting on the Lower East Side, authorities told a New York Injury Lawyer.
The 57-year-old activist walked with the aid of crutches from a meeting of Community Board 3 at Public School 20, and was struck by a yellow cab as he tried to cross Essex Street in the middle of the block, fellow board members informed a New York Car Accident Lawyer.
The activist was rushed immediately to Bellevue Hospital, but was pronounced dead upon arrival. New York Personal Injury Lawyers have yet to determine the exact details of the accident, or indeed if any further information is forthcoming.
The deceased activist began his career of protest in the early 1980s when he came out as openly gay and joined the rights group ACT UP, according to a New York Car Accident Lawyer. He was a common sight at community-board meetings, rallies, and hearings and was well-known to the New York political community.
