A crash on the Long Island Expressway has left two men in critical condition, after one car drove head-on into the other, speeding and driving the wrong way down the road. They are both in a Flushing hospital’s intensive care unit, according to a New York Injury Lawyer.

A 64-year-old man from Greenlawn was put into a medically induced coma and his friends and family wait with him for further developments in his condition. He was driving his airport shuttle van on the eastbound side of the Long Island Expressway when it was struck head-on by a 2002 Mercedes-Benz driving by a 30-year-old man from Hempstead, a spokeswoman with the New York City Police Department told a New York Car Accident Lawyer. There were no passengers in the shuttle at the time of the accident.

The Greenlawn man is in critical condition and finds it difficult to breath. His lungs have contusions and his rib cage is broken. His pelvis and right leg also suffered fractures, his son-in-law told a New York Injury Lawyer. “He’s fighting for his life right now,” the son-in-law said to a New York Car Accident Lawyer.

Not smoking, not cancer, not heart disease, but an action that most everyone does every day: car related crashes. Car related crashes are amongst the most common causes of death in the United States of America, reports a New York Injury Lawyer. That terrible feeling of a four thousand pound mess of steel, glass, and plastic getting out of control. That helpless sensation as your coffin skids down the road, stopping who knows where and who knows when, but all the while the one thing known is that the stopping will be violent and angry, says a New York Car Accident Lawyer. The car, that single creation that has so transformed this great nation from one of horses and buggies to one of interstate travel on a daily basis. It has revolutionized the world. But all that change brings with it the greater chance of death. A person is more likely to die driving a car than they are to die flying in an airplane, notes a New York Injury Lawyer. Think about that, defying the laws of God and nature by throwing oneself through the air in a tight metal ball is more safe than driving a car to the store, says a New York Car Accident Lawyer Yet, the world we live in demands we drive and so few of us would ever give it up for that reason. Still, the startling realities are that car crashes happen every day and every day they take a life.

An online petition has been started to convince the Suffolk district attorney to upgrade charges against a driver who killed two Connetquot High School students in an accident, New York Injury Lawyers have learned. Police say this driver had a revoked license at the time of the crash.

The petition gained nearly 800 signatures in the first few days. The woman who started the petition was a friend of the families of the slain high school students, and says that the petition was signed by family, friends, and friends-of-friends of the boys who died in the crash – a 17-year-old from Oakdale, and a 16-year-old from Sayville. “This is unique,” a professor of media studies told a New York Car Accident Lawyer. “I’ve heard of social media used for social causes, for holding public officials accountable, for helping advocate for or against an issue. I’ve not encountered one where people are trying to influence a case.”

Suffolk police have told New York Injury Lawyers that the 28-year-old Selden man who was driving the fatal vehicle was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, which carries a maximum punishment of 30 days in jail, authorities told a New York Injury Lawyer. A spokesman for the district attorney would not tell New York Car Accident Lawyers if the petition would have any effect on the charges being brought forward.
