An East Hills man has been arraigned in the hit-and-run death of an 81-year-old Roslyn Height woman. Police sources tell New York Injury Lawyers he claims to have seen the woman, but could not avoid hitting her. The 26-year-old man is charged with leaving the scene of an accident with a death, which is a felony. He was also charged with a traffic violation, leaving the scene of an incident without a report.
New Your Car Accident Lawyers have learned prosecutors claim the driver hit the 81-year-old woman and continued driving without calling authorities. He was driving a tan 2001 Cherokee east on Warner Avenue when he “saw a woman, could not avoid her, and heard a ‘thud’ in front of his car.” The woman was only a few blocks from her home.
The 81-year-old woman walked with a cane and was thrown at least 75 feet by the impact. She was pronounced dead on the scene, homicide detectives told New York Injury Lawyers. The driver of the car was arrested when he took his car to a Queens body shop for repairs. Someone called the Nassau police department tip line, according to a New York Car Accident Lawyer.
